Rie McCarthy grew up in Ōita, Japan. After having lived in many different places from Tokyo to the Adirondacks, it was in New York City that Rie decided to create ceramics.

Today, Rie makes functional and aesthetic, wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramics in Western Massachusetts that is inspired by the beauty in everyday life.
